Dalton Roberts: Long John Cardinal

2007.10.14 Dalton Roberts.jpg

The birds that come to your feeding area become part of your family as surely as your dogs and cats. You actually bond with some of them and are able to communicate with them.

A perfect example was my one-legged cardinal I named Long John. In case you were not receiving my stories back when Long John came into my life, let me briefly tell you about him.

One day I saw him fluttering furiously when he would try to hang onto a feeder that other cardinals had no trouble clinging to. I got my binoculars and saw he only had one leg.

About Dalton Roberts and Long John Cardinal...Apparently, Dalton is an avid pet lover, just like our family. I believe as we get older, our children move on, we have more time on our hands to enjoy some of the simple things in life. I have a dog whom I am very close to named Clyde. My son brought him home one New Years eve day, December of 1999. We already had 3 dogs and a cat. I was not happy with my son for bringing home yet another animal to be responsible for. Clyde and I are best buddies now. I do not know how I will ever get along without him. My husband and I are very close, but we still have our dogs of which we love and are very close companions of ours. My husband has a beautiful Shelty he adopted from the SPCA. She is definetly HIS DOG. We are also bird lovers as well. I do not believe that the dogs and birds communicate on the same level as humans, but that they do have their own way of communication through whatever means GOD gave them. They are living beings of life and should be given the respect that they so much deserve for enriching our lives with beautiful memories.
