Potomac Fever

It took George Washington’s influence to establish the seat of government for the new nation of the United States--located on the banks of the Potomac River between Virginia and Maryland, a few miles from Washington’s plantation. It did not matter that the swamps around the site was a breeding place for mosquitoes. In the summer, legislators couldn’t wait to get out of town and away from the swamp fever.

We found methods to fight mosquitoes and treat swamp fever. After we pushed back the mosquitos and found treatments for swamp fever, a new disease took its place. This new disease spreads and no cure is in sight. Medical science doesn’t recognize it and the treatment is elusive. This new disease is called Potomac Fever.

Curtis Adams: Read My Lips No New Taxes

Remember George HW Bush, the first Bush to be President of the United States? During his campaign for President, Mr. Bush made the following unequivocal promise: "read my lips no new taxes." After Mr. Bush's election, he raised taxes.

During an election politicians make many promises and after elections politicians break those promises. People, unfortunately, tend to forget the broken promises.

Corker on Immigration

From FSA and the Chattanoogan.com:

Anticipating a cloture vote on the immigration bill on Tuesday, U.S. Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) today said he will be in opposition.

He said, “I plan to vote against cloture on the immigration bill, as I have already done twice during this debate. I believe a better approach would be a more modest bill that focuses on border security, employer identification, and putting systems in place that will put us in a position to actually enforce a new immigration policy.

Naman Crowe: Our Illegal War

From Naman Crowe of IPS Features

If those Americans who are so angry at illegal aliens showed half that outrage against our illegal war in Iraq, we probably wouldn’t have gone to war in the first place and we certainly wouldn’t still be there now.

There are many vast and mighty currents of hypocrisy that sweep too often across America from sea to shining sea carrying the flotsam and jetsam of the mob mentality soaked in racism, self-righteousness and greed.

Jesus Does Write Songs

From Dalton Roberts of IPS Features

After I decided to write and record an album of inspirational and gospel songs and got my inner self in tune, the songs started coming to me in powerful and sometimes dramatic ways. Like the song, “Jesus Writes Songs, Too.”

I was going home from work one day in the 5:00 rush hour traffic and wondering why I was writing songs about Jesus when He never wrote a single song. In fact, we have no record that He ever wrote a word other than what he wrote in the sand when a mob brought Him a woman caught in adultery. Actually, that inspired the title song of my album, “I Wonder What He Wrote in the Sand.”

Thank You for Not Smoking

Should we be imposing "sin" taxes on cigarettes, alcohol, and other sin products to raise money for government operations? Should these type of taxes be imposed without restructuring our tax system, searching for a fair system of taxation to fund legitimate government operations, like education?

The Fred Factor?

Zach Wamp and Nashville radio talk show host Steve Gill want to return us to the days of Ronald Reagan with the promotion of Fred Thompson for President.

55 percent of the American public do not know Mr. Thompson so Wamp and Gill wrote a book. The book is designed to keep Fred's name out there in the public eye. With 55 percent not knowing Fred he needs all the help he can get.

Republicans characterize Fred as being like Ronald Reagan. They believe Fred can return our country to the glory days of Reagan.

For all of our sakes let's hope this publicity stunt doesn not work. The likes of Wamp and Gill want to return this country to the Regan era culture of Iran Contra Corruption. They want to return us to the failed economics of high inflation and recession.

The Fred Factor is a political ploy to continue to promote a man and a conservative agenda that has and continues to fail. Why do Republicans want a return to the Regan era? Haven't we had enough of failure already? An article on this subject from the Chattanoogan.com appears below.
