Staged or Real: Giuliani answers phone during speech

2007.9.24 Giuliani.jpg

By now everyone has seen the video on YouTube of Rudy Giuliani taking a phone call during a speech to the NRA. Is this staged or real? Is it just another time where a person rudely takes a phone call because someone forgot to turn off the cell phone.

Rudy Giuliani receives a phone call from his wife during a major speech to the NRA, and before the phone ring is heard, he proclaims it must be his wife calling him. He tells her he is speaking to the NRA, as if she did not know, tells her he loves her and that he will call her back. The call was staged-how convenient that Mr. Giuliani receives a phone call from his wife during a nationally televised speech. If not staged, how disrespectful--the NRA is not important enough to get his undivided attention, the NRA is not important enough for him to turn off his cell phone.

Maybe he just forgot?

Think about this for a moment, a phone call taken from his wife during a national speech, did he really forget?

How many times have you been in a movie, a restuarant, or with friends when a cell phone rings and the person receiving the call rudley takes the call. Giuliani proclaims the cell phone to be a modern wonder, and a curse. In this case, the call was obviously staged, trying to put a human face on a Presidential candidate.

Healthcare for All

2007.9.18 Clinton comprehensive health care.jpg

Healthcare is fast becoming an important issue among the candidates racing for the Democratic nomination. Each Democrat is proposing that we have universal health care. On September 17, 2007 Hillary Clinton unveiled her health care proposal. Can Mrs. Clinton, or any Democrat, get a comprehensive universal health care program passed?

Presidential candidates make a lot of promises during the campaign for president. There is one thing missing from each candidate's promise, however. We have not, as of today, heard a comprehensive plan to get universal health care through the United States Senate and through the United States House of Representatives. With the current makeup of both bodies, universal health care has no chance of passage. The Democratic majorities in each house are so slim that a veto or a filibuster can put the end to any piece of legislation before it is passed.

We need to hear these Democratic candidates speak about how they will get a healthcare plan to Congress, the Democratic candidates need a strategy on how they can pass health-care legislation through both houses of Congress making a law. Every candidate for president knows that Congress is the real key to passing health-care reform in our nation but none of them have put forth a comprehensive plan to get universal health care out of both houses of Congress.

Talk is cheap-we need a plan of action. The plan of action needs to include how we will pass universal health care and get it out of the legislative branch and to the people.

We need a president who is willing to lead by proposing universal health care but what we really need is a change in the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives by electing members of both houses who have the courage to pay for a comprehensive and universal health care package for all Americans. No matter who we elect as president, without a real change in leadership in the Congress, a change that involves electing people of courage, no president will succeed in passing universal health care.

Cooperation with Democrats

2007.9.18 Young Turks.jpg

On Air America, the Young Turks are broadcasting their displeasure with the President of the United States and his unwillingness to cooperate with Democrats regarding the appointment of a new Attorney General. Yesterday, a new Attorney General was appointed by the President, and he appointed someone he wants to aggressively follow this policy. The President continues to take a bullheaded approach in his appointments, ignoring Democrats.

However, Democrats such as Senators Feinstein and Schumer continue to take a conciliatory attitude toward the President's actions, as they did with the appointment of the Attorney General, giving the president every opportunity to work with Democrats on crucial appointments-despite giving this opportunity the President continues to ignore Democrats. Well senators, when will you see the light that this President does not want to work with Democrats, and will continue to be obstructive and uncooperative unless the Democrats get the courage to stand up to this President and do what Democrats were elected to do-fight for the rights of the people.

There is a time for compromise, and there is a time to fight. The President is misleading this country in a misguided war, and he continues to have a bullheaded approach to governing this nation. It is time for Democrats such a Schumer and Feinstein to stand their ground and show this country they can lead.

Frederick of Hollywood

Frederick of Hollywood.jpg

He skipped debates in Iowa, he did not return to his home state of Tennessee, he did not participate in the Republican presidential debate-Fred Thompson skipped these opportunities for a face to face with voters and other candidates to appear on Jay Leno. Fred Thompson chose to announce he is running for president, in the place Republican conservatives despise—Hollywood California.

Fred spends time in Hollywood making films and appearing on Law and Order-he is an actor, and he loves it. Fred is, therefore, most comfortable announcing his candidacy for president on television, and in a well produced video showing him in an expensive home talking to people in a scripted broadcast via the Internet. Fred loves the camera, Fred uses the camera, instead of facing his supporters, to announce his run for President. He is Frederick Thompson, Frederick of Hollywood.

Giuliani's Errors

guliani.jpg

The presidential campaign has been under way since the elections of November 2006. We are more than a year away from electing the next president of the United States and negatives are already surfacing about candidates. Rudy Giuliani has been considered a front-runner for the Republican nomination, so it is no surprise there is a video talking about his mistakes.

Fred Thompson is Running

Thompson_0031.jpg

On Thursday, September 6, 2007, Fred Thompson will announce he is running for President. Is it too late for him to become a serious candidate? With several changes in his non campaign staff, many experts think that Thompson has a long road to the White House. Thompson has had shake ups in his campaign before he became an official candidate. Many believe he cannot mount a serious campaign, particularly based upon an apparent desire to return to the days of Ronald Reagan. Is Thompson America's next Reagan or will he be a flash in the pan?
